OUR PROJECT

The underserved population are heterogeneous in nature and mainly in the informal sector.

The underserved population are heterogeneous in nature and mainly in the informal sector. In Nigeria this makes up a large section of the population estimated at over 70%, you will also find that they are registered subscribers to one telecommunication network or another. The increased reach is created by the opportunity to purchase inexpensive phones and recharge cards (N100,N200,e.t.c.) thereby meeting the needs of the poor within the spectrum of the ability to pay (recent opportunities for people to transfer credit and pay for others does exist).

Common Perception

The common perception is that the underserved are too poor to pay for health services as they struggle for survival everyday. This need not be true as informal surveys have shown that many within this population are willing to pay for quality healthcare services albeit in consideration of their ability to pay (cost and payment plan).

Considering, that the paying ability for this group is limited, a well structured health insurance plan can help provide this opportunity for them to access health care.

PILOT PROGRAMS

The first pilot project was at Idi-ori Community, Ajeromi/Ifelodun LGA in Ajegunle Lagos, were underserved families were given a free one month health care access, which was funded by Novo Health Africa through a voluntary monthly charity donation pulled together by management and staff of the organization who decided to pull funds together by voluntarily donating to this project.

The Foundation has commenced enrolment for both individuals and families in the Ajegunle area of Lagos State. The beneficiaries who subscribed to the subsidized healthcare scheme will pay a monthly premium of N500 (for Family) and N300 (for individuals) for access to healthcare all year round. We hope to extend this opportunity to the underserved population in different states across the country.
